o/t: leisure reading during August

For work reasons I was reading quite a lot about Isaac Newton this month, and a couple of the books concerned (plus a mystery novel starring him) became leisure reads rather than work ones. Otherwise, August’s crop was something of a mixed bag. The links are to my GoodReads notes.

Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson

Dark Matter: The Private Life of Sir Isaac Newton by Philip Kerr (despite the subtitle, this is a mystery novel with Newton as Sherlock)

Love, the Painter’s Wife and the Queen of Sheba by Aliette Armel

The Clockwork Universe: Isaac Newton, the Royal Society, and the Birth of the Modern World by Edward Dolnick

Dante’s Wood by Lynne Raimondo

Blood from a Stone by Dolores Gordon-Smith

The Master Key by Masako Togawa

The Unbelievers by Alastair Sim

In Bitter Chill by Sarah Ward

Trespass by Valerie Martin

Mendel’s Dwarf by Simon Mawer

Newton by Peter Ackroyd

Under Your Skin by Sabine Durrant

Border Crossing by Pat Barker

Vanish in an Instant by Margaret Millar

15 books in all, of which 2 were nonfiction, 10 were by female writers, and 2 were in translation.
